PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Henry Fisher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ribeiro Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ribeiro Gracie was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Henry Fisher!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ribeiro Gracie!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie with a poor takedown

and Fisher counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Fisher trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Fisher passes into half guard.

Fisher looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Gracie actively working from the bottom here.

Gracie is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fisher pulls his head out easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fisher seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gracie does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fisher throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Gracie wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gracie tries to escape the position.
Gracie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Fisher has good solid back control here.
Gracie tries to roll but Fisher sticks to his back.
Gracie breaks Fisher's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gracie drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Fisher dives on top into guard.

Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Fisher trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Fisher passes into side control.
Gracie tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fisher wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Fisher wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gracie keeps working.
Gracie is looking to regain half guard here but Fisher keeps moving and retains side control.

Fisher seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gracie does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.

Gracie misses with a takedown

and Fisher counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fisher wants to stand but Gracie is controlling his posture from full guard.

Fisher got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fisher has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.
Fisher might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Fisher decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Gracie shoots in but no luck this time.

Gracie gets caught flat footed, as Fisher shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Fisher is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.
Gracie is letting Fisher control him for a moment.
Gracie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Fisher off and has taken his back!

Fisher defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Gracie's arms.
Fisher breaks Gracie's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Gracie had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fisher defends it easily.

Gracie is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fisher defends well.

Fisher is trying to control. Gracie wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Gracie has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Fisher escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Fisher!
Fisher throws an elbow but Gracie slips to the side and avoids it well.

Gracie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Fisher off and has taken his back!
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Fisher here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Gracie working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fisher wants to control his opponent's hands but Gracie gets his hands free.
Henry Fisher overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fisher is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Gracie is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Fisher has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Fisher turns into Gracie and is now in his guard.

Fisher stands and throws Gracie's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Gracie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Fisher seems to be working for a kimura but Gracie defends the submission attempt.

Fisher postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Gracie to stand up.
Gracie has his takedown stuffed

and Fisher counters by moving into the clinch.
Henry Fisher has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ribeiro Gracie.
Gracie is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Fisher gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gracie drops down looking for an ankle pick but Fisher pulls his leg out and moves away.
Ribeiro Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fisher has Gracie up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Fisher jumps guard and drags Gracie to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Gracie stands and throws Fisher's legs to the side, diving into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Henry Fisher will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Fisher shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gracie pinned against the cage. Gracie gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Fisher counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Gracie is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Henry Fisher has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ribeiro Gracie.

Gracie has an active guard here but Fisher has managed to pass into half guard.
Gracie keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Fisher uses his free foot to push down on Gracie's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Gracie.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fisher manages to capitalize on a mistake by Gracie to take his back!

Gracie tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Fisher wants to control the pace but Gracie is squirming around nicely.
Gracie is desperately trying to improve his position but Fisher has a good base and remains in mount.
Gracie regains half guard.
Fisher is keen to just control but Gracie is a slippery customer.
Fisher moves nicely into side control.

Fisher looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Gracie takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Fisher wants to free his trapped foot but Gracie is holding on for dear life with his legs.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fisher enables Gracie to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fisher manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Fisher is retaining full guard.
Fisher is looking to stand up but Gracie isn't so interested in that idea.

And that's the end of the fight!
Henry Fisher showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Fisher, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
