Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Belfort! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nick Diaz! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Belfort tries to score a power double leg takedown but Diaz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Belfort somewhat. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Diaz. Diaz pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Belfort moves into the clinch. Belfort has Diaz pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Diaz manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Belfort is trying to pull guard but Diaz turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vitor Belfort. That's going to take a lot out of him. Belfort is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Diaz gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Diaz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Belfort circles away quickly and effectively. Diaz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Belfort avoids it really well and circles away. Diaz closes the distance and clinches.

Diaz wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Belfort has him pressed against the cage. Belfort looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Diaz is trying to force a seperation but Belfort has the dominant position. Belfort tries for a takedown. No joy.

Belfort has control of Diaz's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Diaz regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Belfort jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Diaz manages to avoid the submission attempt. Belfort wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diaz, who protects the arm well. Belfort is breathing heavily. Belfort working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Belfort tries for a kimura but Diaz is defending well. Belfort throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Belfort fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Diaz dodges the ground and pound from Belfort. Belfort sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Diaz is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vitor Belfort dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Diaz keeps the fight on the outside. Belfort drops his hands momentarily and Diaz takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Belfort shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Diaz forces Belfort back against the cage and clinches. Diaz is trying to push Belfort away but Belfort has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Diaz tries to break free but Belfort pushes him back against the cage. Belfort tries to score a body lock takedown but Diaz shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Belfort drags the fight down to the ground.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Belfort is on top in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz pivots, looking for a leg kick but Belfort is out of range and Diaz settles back down. Belfort throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Diaz's waist but Diaz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Belfort off to one side. Diaz cracks Belfort with a good jab. This has been an exciting period of action! Diaz closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Diaz misses with some punches.

Belfort takes a knee to the side of the body. Belfort jumps guard but Diaz stands there with Belfort around his waist. Belfort gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Diaz lands a right hand. Diaz tries to circle away but Belfort has him pinned against the cage. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Diaz blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Belfort jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Diaz walks away with a smile on his face. Belfort gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Nick Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Vitor Belfort is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Diaz throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
And that's the end of the fight! Nick Diaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Belfort has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
