Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andrew Barker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lloyd Christmas! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barker gets a double leg takedown into Christmas's guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Christmas has his hands on Barker's head, controlling the position. Christmas wants to stand and escape but Barker is having none of it. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Christmas can do anything to dispel that myth. Christmas preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Barker throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Christmas works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Barker wants to pass the guard but Christmas is keeping the position. Barker with a flurry of punches that miss. Christmas working a defensive guard here.
Christmas keeping moving, preventing Barker from controlling successfully. Barker not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Christmas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Christmas darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Barker is looking to control Christmas's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Barker avoid being mounted? Christmas thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Barker is trying to stand up here but Christmas is controlling him well. Barker could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Barker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Christmas is working away from the top position though. Christmas is looking for a kimura but Barker is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Christmas to get the leverage. Christmas prevents Barker from standing back up.
Barker is breathing heavily. Christmas is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Barker sees it coming and defends easily. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Barker is not content to let Christmas control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Christmas is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Barker has managed to free his arm - good work. Barker pushes Christmas off looking to stand but Christmas dives back in and keeps control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Christmas is pressing down on Barker's thigh, looking to free his foot. Barker is holding on for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Christmas is trying to control the action in half guard but Barker is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Christmas is looking for a kimura but Barker is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Christmas to get the leverage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Christmas not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Barker manages to get to full guard.
Barker is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barker content to control rather than advance. Christmas trying to hold on to Barker's head to control him but Barker postures up.
Barker decides to return to a standing position. Barker bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Christmas is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Barker off and has taken his back! Barker tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Barker tries to hold on but Christmas pushes him away. Barker is squirming around, avoiding Christmas's attempts to control the action.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Christmas gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Christmas fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Barker gets a double leg takedown into Christmas's guard. Barker is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Christmas with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Barker can't handle though.

Barker fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Christmas, pushing him back against the cage. Barker jumps guard and drags Christmas to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Christmas passes Barker's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Christmas looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Christmas is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Barker still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Barker has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Barker decides to take the fight back to the feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Barker is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barker shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Christmas napping and manages to drive through into side control! Barker is working Christmas over with some ground and pound from side control. Barker misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Christmas struggling a bit here. Christmas tries to buck Barker off but Barker is having none of it. Barker throwing shots but missing, from side control. Christmas avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Barker. Barker is putting a hurting on Christmas here, landing some big shots from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Christmas explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! Barker gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Barker pulls guard. Barker is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Christmas pushing down on Barker's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Christmas moves nicely into side control. Barker is trying to improve his position. Christmas tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Christmas has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Barker tries to improve position but can't.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barker wants to control but Christmas postures up. Barker is trying to improve his position. Barker is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Christmas has just dragged him back down to the mat. Christmas stands up. Christmas manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Barker on his heels. He'll look to pass Barker's guard now, I'm sure. Christmas decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Barker has closed the distance and engaged Christmas in a clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barker works on Christmas's body with a couple of short punches. Barker has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Christmas clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Christmas trying to control but not successfully. Christmas is trying to escape under a series of strikes and manages to escape from Barker 's hooks. Barker with good strikes from the mount here! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Christmas reaches up and holds on to Barker to control the position. Barker working away from the top, dropping strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Andrew Barker dominated that second round. That's time! Barker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Barker throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Christmas tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Barker is in Christmas's guard. Barker landing some decent shots from guard. Barker trying to control the position from guard on top but Christmas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Barker throws a big right hand that misses. Barker loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Christmas looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Christmas not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Barker postures up and lands a big shot to Christmas's brow. Barker won't allow Christmas to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barker looking to pass the guard. Barker has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Christmas is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Barker defends well. Barker trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Barker trying to stand up but can't free himself from Christmas's guard. Christmas lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Barker! Barker is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Christmas sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Barker is working to get back to half guard.
Christmas trying to control but he's not successful this time. Barker slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Christmas is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Barker! Christmas looking to secure an arm triangle but Barker defends it well. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Christmas controlling the position easily from mount. Barker manages to regain half guard. Good work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Christmas trying to control from half guard but Barker is working away. Christmas might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Barker kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Barker is positioning himself well to prevent Christmas advancing to mount. Barker is looking for a sweep. Christmas is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Andrew Barker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Barker moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Barker keeping full guard, as Christmas tries to pass. Barker trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barker controls Christmas momentarily but Christmas frees himself. Barker wants to stand and escape but Christmas is having none of it. Christmas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Christmas trying to control the position from guard on top but Barker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Barker trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Barker has his foot on Christmas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Christmas works his way back into a safe position though. Barker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Christmas can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Barker trying to keep a closed guard but Christmas is proving a slippery customer.
Lloyd Christmas has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Andrew Barker is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Barker tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that's the end of the fight! Andrew Barker showed his dominance in that final round. Well Barker has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
