Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
14 - 15 - 1, fighting out of London, Matthew Cannon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ikoa Oyama! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Atkins and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cannon throws a jab but it's blocked by Oyama. Oyama shoots in for a takedown but Cannon shows good takedown defense. Cannon cracks a nice hook into Oyama's ribs. Cannon dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Oyama steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cannon. Cannon throws a shot to the body.
Oyama takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Jab from Cannon. A big right from Cannon misses. A looping hook to the body misses from Cannon. Oyama does a little dance to reset his feet. Cannon cracks Oyama with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Cannon looks to land a right hand but Oyama moved out of range. A telegraphed right hand from Oyama misses the target. Matthew Cannon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Oyama takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Cannon comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Oyama throws a shot from downtown. Cannon moves away and avoids it. Oyama uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Cannon. Cannon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Oyama was well out of range. Poor timing from Cannon. A jab lands there for Cannon. Decent striking displayed by Cannon there. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cannon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Oyama. Cannon throws an overhand right that lands on Oyama's shoulder, as Oyama tries to avoid the shot. Oyama tries to move into range but Cannon moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cannon slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Oyama throws a hook but Cannon blocks it. Cannon lands a head shot. Matthew Cannon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cannon fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Oyama misses with a hook
and Cannon cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
It looks like Ikoa Oyama has been cut. Cannon displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Oyama throws out the jab. Oyama looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Cannon! The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Cannon is trying to escape the mount but Oyama keeps good control and instead manages to take Cannon's back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Oyama doesn't have the hooks in and Cannon manages to turn into his guard.
Oyama tries to land a sweep but no joy. Cannon is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Oyama is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cannon defends well. Oyama looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cannon is one step ahead there. Cannon missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Cannon pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Oyama is keeping the position for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Matthew Cannon dominated that round. The cut man is working on Ikoa Oyama's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Oyama slips under a jab from Cannon. Nice defenses there by Cannon. Cannon throws out a loose jab but Oyama uses good head movement to avoid it. Cannon swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Oyama. Cannon swings for the body but Oyama moves out of range.
Cannon misses with a wild body shot. Cannon throws a hook but Oyama blocks it. Oyama throws an overhand right that lands on Cannon's shoulder, as Cannon tries to avoid the shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cannon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Oyama swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Cannon with a jab. Oyama swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Oyama slips under a jab from Cannon. Oyama tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cannon was well out of range. Poor timing from Oyama. Cannon connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Cannon misses with a hook. Oyama ducked under it nicely.

Oyama throws out a loose jab but Cannon uses good head movement to avoid it. Good exchange - Cannon coming out on top. Cannon paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Cannon smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. No luck with that takedown attempt from Oyama. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cannon throws a hook to the side of Oyama's head but Oyama sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Oyama uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cannon. Cannon avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Cannon thuds a left hand into Oyama's body. Oyama moves out of range of the strikes. Cannon misses with a hook. Cannon misses with a looping left. Cannon throws a big shot that misses.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cannon throws a body punch but Oyama moves out of range. A slow jab from Oyama misses its intended target. Oyama throws a lazy right hand but Cannon sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Cannon connects with a jab. Oyama takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Nice straight punches there by Cannon. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Cannon. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Cannon slips under a jab from Oyama. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Oyama walks into a jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cannon misses with an uppercut. Oyama saw that one coming. A telegraphed right hand from Oyama misses the target. Cannon throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Oyama on the side of the head. Oyama swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Oyama drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Cannon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Oyama can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Oyama trying to control but Cannon is working from the bottom. Oyama pushes down on Cannon's leg and manages to get into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oyama tries to pass the half guard into mount. Cannon knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Cannon makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Cannon lands a lovely overhand right. Oyama uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cannon.
Cannon throws a big shot that misses. Oyama misses with a shot to the body and Cannon counters with a lovely shot to the body. Ikoa Oyama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cannon punishes Oyama's body with a nice straight punch. Cannon avoids the body shot from Oyama.

Cannon thuds his right hand into Oyama's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Cannon moves out of range as Oyama strikes. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cannon ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Cannon moves out of range of the strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oyama throws a hook but Cannon avoids it easily. Oyama walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Cannon fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Oyama looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Cannon missing with a left hand there. Oyama was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Cannon slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Cannon swings for the body but Oyama moves out of range.
Oyama takes a shot right to the bread basket. Cannon throws a body punch but Oyama moves out of range. Oyama has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cannon thuds a left hand into Oyama's body. Cannon lands with an uppercut that bounces Oyama off the cage and back into range. Cannon with a hook. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cannon connects with a right hand. Oyama shakes it off. Oyama on the wrong end of a nice hook. Cannon lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Matthew Cannon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cannon lands the left hand. Cannon lands with a right hand.
And that's the end of the fight! Matthew Cannon showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cannon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
