Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Vitor Matos! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kartik Yay! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Seu Braga and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yay throws a nice looking combination but Matos bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Yay misses with a body shot.
Yay swinging wildly here.
Matos scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Yay drives through with a takedown into guard. Yay prevents Matos from getting back to his feet. Yay pushing down on Matos's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Matos is trying to stand.
Yay thows a huge punch but Matos dodges it nicely.
Yay wants to lay and pray for a moment but Matos keeps working. Matos pushes Yay off looking to stand but Yay dives back in and keeps control.
Yay wants to pass the guard but Matos is defending well. Matos is trying to stand.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
That's one minute gone in the round. Yay looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Yay wants to work for an arm triangle but Matos is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Yay scoring with strikes to the body and head. Yay looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Matos looks like he's trying to stand up.
Yay is figuring out what he wants to do next. Matos pushes Yay off but Yay dives into side control.
Yay controlling from side mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matos wants to get back to his feet. Matos gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Yay raining down shots from the mount! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Yay looking to control and managing it successfully. Yay lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Matos hang on?
It looks like Vitor Matos has been cut. Matos is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Yay trying to control but he's not successful this time. Yay controlling the pace for now. Yay has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yay punishing his opponent with strikes.
Matos is rocked! Yay unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Matos wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Yay celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
