And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Angry Angus!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Angus circles away from the clinch attempt.
Alvarez tries to clinch up.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Alvarez!
Alvarez wants to clinch up but Angus keeps it at a distance.
Angus throws the left hand but Alvarez avoids the punch easily.
Alvarez tries to close the distance and clinch but Angus swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Alvarez scores with a hook to the body. Angus takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Angus misses with a head kick.
Thiago Alvarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Alvarez drops Angus with a left right combo! Alvarez follows him down to the ground into side control.

Alvarez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Alvarez postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Alvarez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Angus knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Angus bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Alvarez moves in looking to clinch but Angus pushes him off.
Alvarez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Alvarez tries to close the distance and clinch but Angus swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Alvarez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Angus paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Angus. Alvarez does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sloppy strikes from Alvarez. Those never looked like landing.

Oooh a lovely combination from Alvarez sends Angus down but not out. Alvarez dives into side control looking to finish.


It looks like Angry Angus has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Alvarez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Angus, who protects the arm well.

Alvarez is trying to get an arm triangle but Angus is defending well.
Alvarez in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Alvarez swings around for an armbar but Angus sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Alvarez's guard.

Alvarez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Alvarez throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Alvarez has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Angus should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Alvarez has tightened it up now! Angus should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Thiago Alvarez!
