Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Todd Bauer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jim Beam! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A big right from Bauer misses. Beam swings widly with a right hand
and Bauer counters with a one-two to the body. Beam misses with a looping right. Beam gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Bauer is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Beam. Bauer is trying to break free. Bauer wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Beam has him pressed against the cage. Bauer is trying to push Beam away but Beam has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Bauer wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Bauer breaks the clinch.
Bauer works Beam's body with a nice hook. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bauer jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Beam takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Bauer misses with a few strikes there.
Bauer fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Bauer lands a big right hand that sends Beam crashing to the mat! Bauer stays standing though and waves Beam back to his feet!
It looks like Jim Beam has been cut. Beam avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Bauer throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bauer moves away from the strike by Beam. Bauer lands with an uppercut that bounces Beam off the cage and back into range. Jim Beam seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bauer scores with a jab to the head.
Beam is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Beam will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Bauer cracks Beam on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Beam falls backwards against the cage. Bauer follows up with more strikes that drop Beam to his knees. Bauer keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Beam! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Todd Bauer! A very excited looking Todd Bauer made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
