Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anhel Batista!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gerrard Jones!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones just misses with a punch to the body.
Batista circles away from the clinch attempt

and Batista counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Jones works his way to full guard. Good work.
Batista has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jones pulls Batista in to control the position.
Batista tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.

Batista is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Gerrard Jones hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Batista takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Batista manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Batista, up you get!

Jones is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Batista wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Batista stops Jones from standing up.
Batista wants to get up but he can't break Jones's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Batista knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.

Batista dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Batista's head and hops out.
Horrible takedown by Batista or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Anhel Batista will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Well, if Jones is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Jones wants to take a breather but Batista is having none of it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Gerrard Jones.
Batista swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Batista sprawls well. Batista wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Batista as he jumps to the side.

and Batista counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Jones is staying active underneath Batista, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Batista is trying to control. Jones wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That was a close second round but I would say that Anhel Batista will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Batista tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Batista manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Jones looks to land a combination. Batista sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Batista moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.

and Jones counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jones.

Batista changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jones looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
