Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wes Morris! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Glen Nelson! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Nice takedown defense from Morris. No joy for Nelson on that attempt. Nelson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Nelson fails with a takedown attempt. Wes Morris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Glen Nelson. Nelson on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Morris lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Nelson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Morris sprawls well. Morris wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nelson gets slowly back to his feet. Morris stuns Nelson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Nelson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Morris's waist but Morris gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nelson off to one side. Nelson shoots in but Morris avoids the takedown attempt easily. Nelson drives through with a takedown into Morris's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Nelson pushing down on Morris's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Nelson sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Morris defending well though. Nelson tries to pass to full mount but Morris defends it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morris gets full guard. Nelson is stalling in the full guard. Nelson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Morris swivels though and keeps the full guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nelson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Nelson slips nicely into half guard. Nelson passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Morris! Morris is working to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Morris has worked his arm free - good work by Morris!
Nelson looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Nelson lands an elbow. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Morris manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Nelson keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Morris wants to control but Nelson is keeping him busy. Morris missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson tries to get to full guard but Morris has control of the leg. Nelson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nelson. Morris won't allow Nelson to sweep him here. Nelson keeping full guard, as Morris tries to pass. Nelson looking to control.
Morris throws an elbow that misses. Nelson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Morris's guard. Nice move by Nelson! Morris wants to sweep but no luck. Morris can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nelson controls the pace.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson tries to free his leg and advance position but Morris is retaining full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Nelson trying to control but Morris is working from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Glen Nelson was stalling too much, according to the referee. Nelson tries for a takedown but Morris sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Nelson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nelson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Nelson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Morris wants to get back to full guard but Nelson has passed into side control. Nelson thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Glen Nelson dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Nelson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Morris throws a sloppy head kick and Nelson moves out of range easily. Morris uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Nelson. Morris swings for the body but Nelson moves out of range.
Glen Nelson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Morris catches Nelson with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Nelson shoots in and drives through. Morris sprawls well. Nice takedown defense from Morris. No joy for Nelson on that attempt. Wes Morris has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Glen Nelson. Morris getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Nelson looks for a takedown but Morris sprawls well. Nelson scores a takedown into full mount! Nelson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Nelson looking to control but Morris is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Morris wants to hold on but Nelson pushes him away. Morris is trying desperately to improve position. Nelson can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Morris is looking to escape. Morris is in a horrible position here. Nelson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Morris wants to control but Nelson is having none of it. Nelson content just to control the position here. Nelson wants to take Morris's back here but Morris is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Morris is looking to improve his position but Nelson isn't that keen on the idea. Nelson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Morris looks a forlorn figure.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Nelson tries to control but Morris wriggling away. Nelson raining down hammerfists from mount. Nelson in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Morris is in a horrible position here. Nelson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson working for a submission but Morris is keeping him at bay. Nelson lands a heavy elbow. Morris gets back to half guard. Nelson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Nelson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Morris sees it coming and defends easily. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nelson connects with a nice short shot to Morris's temple. Nelson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Nelson works his way into full mount! Morris tries to hold on but Nelson postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Morris turns into him and now he's in Nelson's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Morris won't allow Nelson to sweep him here. Morris is fighting to break Nelson's control of his arms but Nelson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Nelson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Morris doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Morris manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Nelson looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Nelson is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Glen Nelson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Nelson shoots in for a takedown but Morris shows good takedown defense. Nelson takes one on the button. Morris swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Nelson. Nelson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Morris counters with a stiff right hand. Nelson slips a jab and a cross from Morris.

Nelson throws a leg kick but Morris sees it coming and checks it nicely. A left lands for Morris. Nelson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Morris! Nelson trying to control but Morris is having none of it. Nelson lands a nice shot to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Nelson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Morris throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Morris bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Nelson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Morris is aware though and is defending well. Morris preventing the sweep. Nelson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Nelson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Morris swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Morris is looking to get to half guard. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Nelson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Nelson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Nelson landing strikes from the mount and Morris is in trouble! Nelson wants to control the pace but Morris is squirming around nicely. Nelson controlling from mount. Glen Nelson has got the better of the ground game so far. Nelson is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Morris can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Nelson lands a big elbow. Nelson blocks Morris's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Morris is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes. Nelson is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Morris has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Morris! Nelson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Morris defends well. Morris postures up.
Nelson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Morris kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Wes Morris has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Morris manages to get himself to full guard.
Morris keeping moving, preventing Nelson from controlling successfully. Nelson working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Morris throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Nelson passes Morris's left leg - he's now in half guard. Morris has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nelson is working away from the top position though. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Nelson trying to control from half guard but Morris is working away. Nelson wants to work for an arm triangle but Morris is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! Glen Nelson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Nelson winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
