PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jay Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Case (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez comes into the arena with Are You Ready? blaring out of the sound system. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jay Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Henry Case!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Case throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Mendez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Case can pounce on him.
Mendez lunges at Case with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Case's hand.
Mendez works the jab nicely.

Mendez gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Case misses with a knee strike.
Mendez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Mendez lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Mendez throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Case is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Mendez can't fight it off and eventually Case manages to take the fight to the floor. Mendez looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Mendez seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Case trying to control but Mendez is working from the bottom.
Case wants to pass the guard but Mendez is keeping the position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Case advances position into side control!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mendez wants to control but Case postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Case pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mendez lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Mendez checks a leg kick.
Mendez lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Good work by Mendez as he checks the leg kick.
Case tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Mendez is able to avoid easily.
Case has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Case there as he acknowledges the shot.

Case takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Mendez swings for the body but Case moves out of range.
Mendez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mendez scores with a punch to the head.
Mendez jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Case lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Case throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Mendez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Case manages to avoid it.
A nice combination there by Mendez.
Mendez throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Case stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Mendez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Case paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Mendez swings for the body but Case moves out of range.
Case throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Mendez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Case was well out of range. Poor timing from Mendez.
Case circles away from the clinch attempt.
Case throws a low kick but it's checked well by Mendez.
Case takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Case uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mendez.

Case scoring well with a low kick there.
Case scores with a kick to the midsection.

Mendez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Case to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mendez wants to sweep but no luck.
Case pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mendez is keeping the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Case is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Case trying to control the position from guard on top but Mendez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mendez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Case.

Mendez lands with a hook. Case tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Mendez looks to score with a jab to the body but Case is just out of range.

Case is looking to take this one to the mat.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jay Mendez will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Case is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mendez sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Mendez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Case moves out of range of the strikes.
Mendez throws a jab when Case was well out of range.

Mendez scores with a sloppy right hand. Case should have avoided that one.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Mendez lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mendez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
