Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, MJ Ruiz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kiko Okik! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yukihiro Shimada and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruiz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Okik sprawls well. Okik wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ruiz gets slowly back to his feet. Okik shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ruiz defends it nicely. Okik fails with a takedown attempt from distance. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ruiz is defended easily by Okik. Okik gets in close and instigates a clinch. Ruiz has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Okik after a bit of a struggle. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for MJ Ruiz. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Nice sprawl there from Okik as Ruiz shoots in. Ruiz tries to clinch but fails miserably and Okik counters with a lovely shot to the body. Ruiz tries to bum rush Okik with a series of wild strikes but Okik uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Okik closes the distance and clinches. Ruiz tries for a takedown but Okik manages to get underhooks.

Nope, Ruiz circles away and we're back to standing. Ruiz leaves Okik with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. No luck for Ruiz with that takedown attempt. Ruiz dives in and grabs Okik's left leg, looking for a takedown. Okik pushes down on Ruiz's head and hops out. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ruiz fails with the takedown. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Okik shoots for a double leg takedown but Ruiz sprawls well. He's pushed Okik's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Ruiz tries to clinch but Okik moves out of range. Ruiz misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Kiko Okik will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Ruiz dives in and grabs Okik's left leg, looking for a takedown. Okik pushes down on Ruiz's head and hops out. Okik tries to clinch up but Ruiz circles away and keeps his distance. Okik scores with a push kick. Ruiz shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Okik tries to get to full guard but Ruiz has control of the leg. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ruiz is looking for a kimura here.
