Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kiwi Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Gurgel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gurgel shoots in and gets a takedown into Bird's guard.
Gurgel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bird could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bird wants to get back to his feet but Gurgel is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Gurgel is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Gurgel forces his way into half guard.
Gurgel passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bird!
Gurgel working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Bird turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Gurgel off and cradles Bird's limp body as Gurgel celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Brandon Gurgel!
