Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Nathan Corbett! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Danny Lynch! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Corbett takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Lynch connects with a looping right hand.
It looks like Nathan Corbett has been cut. Lynch misses with a double jab.
Corbett lands a jab to the nose.
It looks like Danny Lynch has been cut. Corbett is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Lynch stuffs the takedown attempt from Corbett. Corbett gets slowly back to his feet. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Lynch misses with a looping left. Lynch connects with a good right hand that stumbles Corbett. Corbett circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Lynch takes a swing at Corbett's ribcage but misses. Corbett lands with a kick to the temple. Lynch shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Corbett clinches. Lynch gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Corbett.
Lynch tries to circle away but Corbett has him pinned against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lynch tries to break free but Corbett pushes him back against the cage. Corbett landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Lynch wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Lynch letting Corbett take a breather here. Corbett landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Lynch takes a knee to the side of the body. Lynch looks gassed! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Corbett lands a good knee to the midsection. Lynch won't want to take too many of those. Corbett with a knee to the head.
Corbett with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Corbett manages to pull guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Corbett pulls Lynch in close to prevent any damage.
Nathan Corbett has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Corbett misses with a series of wild punches.
A combination from Lynch does no damage. Lynch swats away the attempt to clinch by Corbett. Corbett on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Corbett moves out of range of the strikes. Corbett checks a leg kick. Lynch swings away with a body shot that misses
and Corbett counters with a one-two to the body. Some wild striking there from Lynch.
Lynch stuffs the takedown attempt from Corbett. Corbett gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathan Corbett. That's going to take a lot out of him. Corbett tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Lynch manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Corbett avoids a kick to the body.
Corbett fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Lynch misses with a series of wild punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Corbett misses with a wild combination.
Corbett closes the distance and clinches. Lynch is trying to break free. Corbett is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Lynch to keep the fight standing. Corbett has clasped his hands together around Lynch's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Lynch is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Corbett has just dragged him back down to the mat. Corbett scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Lynch to see if he's OK. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Corbett has hold of Lynch's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Lynch tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Corbett cranks the arm and Lynch screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Lynch, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Nathan Corbett! Nathan Corbett retains his light heavyweight title! Nathan Corbett was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
