PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cassius Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Connor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cassius Jones!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Connor looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Connor really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Connor wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance.
Connor shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Connor tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Connor gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Jones can't break the clinch.

Jones manages to break the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Connor on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Jones stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Connor lands a nice knee to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Connor blocks a body shot from Jones.

Connor breaks the clinch.
Connor changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Connor manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Connor shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Connor. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Connor clinches with his opponent.
Connor lands an elbow inside.
Jones gets underhooks to prevent Connor's takedown attempt.
Connor trying to stall but Jones improves his position.
Jones pressing his opponent against the cage.
Connor fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jones avoiding damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Connor wants a takedown.
Jones lands a nice knee to the body.
Connor drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jones gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Connor taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Jones is trying to break free.
Jones wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Jones lands a left hand.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Connor fails with the takedown.
Jones pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Connor.
Connor doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.

Jones moves in looking to clinch but Connor pushes him off.
Connor fails in his attempt to clinch.
Connor takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Connor gets a takedown into half guard.
Connor is breathing heavily.
Jones is trying to get back to full guard.
Jones throws a strike from the bottom but Connor passes into side control!
Jones wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones tries to bench press Connor off him but Connor keeps the position.
Jones is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Connor is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Connor is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Jones tries to clinch but Connor moves out of range.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick

so Connor counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Connor stands up from Jones's guard - Connor perhaps looking for a knockout.

Connor rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.
Jones gets underhooks to prevent Connor's takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Connor dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Jones tries to clinch up but Connor circles away and keeps his distance.
Connor tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Jones dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Connor. That did some damage!
Jones is looking to slow Connor down with leg kicks.
Jones throws a head kick that misses.
John Connor is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Connor closes the distance looking to clinch
and Jones counters with a nice low kick that buckles Connor's knee momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Connor uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Jones.

Connor darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Connor stops Jones from getting back to his feet.
Jones is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Connor seems to be working for a kimura but Jones defends the submission attempt.
Still in half guard, Connor seems content to control.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Connor content to control rather than advance.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Connor stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Jones to get to his feet.
Connor clinches but Jones breaks the clinch
and Jones counters with a straight right hand.
Connor gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Jones counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Jones misses the shot to the body.
Connor shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Connor dodges the punch combination from Jones.
Connor tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Jones counters with a one-two to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Connor.
Connor tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Jones makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Jones looks to score with a jab to the body but Connor is just out of range.
Connor shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Connor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick

and Connor decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jones's guard.
Connor is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Jones striking off his back but it's not causing Connor any problems.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Connor forces his way into half guard.

Connor decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Jones throws a combination that misses

and Connor counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jones's guard now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Connor controls from within his opponent's guard.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.
Connor wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Connor dominated that second round.
That's time! Connor's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Connor shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jones counters with a one-two to the body.
Connor darts in trying to clinch
and Jones counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Connor thinking.
Connor shoots and misses

and Jones counters with a single leg into guard. Connor didn't expect that.
Connor lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jones!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Connor manages to capitalize on a mistake by Jones to take his back!
Jones is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jones is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Connor gets his way!
Jones wants to get back to his feet.
Jones tries to roll but Connor sticks to his back.
I would not like to be Jones right now.
Connor will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Connor has the hooks in. Jones is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Connor is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Jones tries to break free.
John Connor overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Connor working for the choke.
Jones is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Connor has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Jones tries to break free.
Connor keeps control of the position easily here as Jones tries to buck him off.
Jones wants to escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jones trying to get back to his feet but Connor is in full control for now.
Jones tries to roll but Connor sticks to his back.
Connor struggling to keep hold of the position.
Connor controlling the position well here. Jones rolled but Connor kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Connor keeps control of the position as Jones tries to break free.
Connor doesn't have the hooks in and Jones manages to turn into his guard.
Cassius Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jones missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Cassius Jones.
I think Connor has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
