Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Phillipe Nover! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Amir Verdum! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nover fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Phillipe Nover seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nover looks to score with a jab to the body but Verdum is just out of range. Nover wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Nover circles away from the clinch attempt.
Nover throws a series of punches but Verdum moves out of range. Nover lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Verdum backs up against the cage.
Nover sizes up Verdum with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Nover slaps away a takedown attempt from Verdum, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nover connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Verdum's hands. Verdum takes a jab right on the kisser.
Nover throws a jab when Verdum was well out of range. Verdum connects with a high kick. Nover swings for the body but Verdum moves out of range.
Verdum tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nover paws at him with a jab and circles away. Nover looks to land a combination but Verdum avoids it well. Verdum throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Verdum has his takedown stuffed and Nover counters with a left and a right that stings Verdum.
Verdum is rocked! Nover digs a good hook to Verdum's body.
Nover tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Verdum was well out of range. Poor timing from Nover. Verdum fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Nover is out of range. Nover is looking to wear down Verdum with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Nover jabs Verdum to the body, keeping him at a distance. Verdum uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nover.
Nover shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Nover, as that shot connected.
Danga de danga de dang - Nover scores with a four punch combination! This has been an exciting period of action! Nover misses with a wild combination.
Nover throws a combination. Verdum tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Verdum is still on wobbly legs! Can Nover finish him? Verdum tries for a takedown but Nover circles away easily and Nover counters with a big right hand! Oh Verdum is in trouble here! Nover follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
