PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frank Saurus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stan Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Richard's choice of entrance music: In Ashes They Shall Reap. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Frank Saurus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stan Richard!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Lou da Vinci and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richard throws a nice looking combination but Saurus bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A big right from Richard misses.
Richard connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Saurus swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Jab, jab by Saurus - just one landing.

Saurus clinches with his opponent.
Saurus misses with a punch to the body.
Come on Richard - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Richard prevents a body shot from Saurus.
Richard blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Richard blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Saurus misses with a hook from the clinch.
Richard will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Saurus up against the cage.

Richard goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Saurus turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Saurus manages to end up in side control.
Richard pushes Saurus away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Saurus gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Richard is letting Saurus control him for a moment.
Richard wants to get back to his feet.
Saurus looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Richard is avoiding damage well.
Saurus tries to move to mount but Richard blocks the move with his legs.
Saurus trying to control the position but Richard is working away.

Saurus thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Richard gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Richard trying to control but Saurus postures up.

Richard wants to improve his position but Saurus is controlling well.
Saurus working Richard over with strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Richard won't allow Saurus to pass to mount.
Richard is trying to stand.
Saurus seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Richard does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Richard wants to get back to his feet.
Richard is looking to control Saurus's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Richard avoid being mounted?
Saurus not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Saurus looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Richard with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Saurus looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Saurus is looking to advance position but Richard won't allow it.

Saurus is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Richard doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Saurus.
Richard has hold of Saurus's hands but Saurus slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Saurus frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Saurus lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Saurus lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Saurus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Richard tries to reverse the position but Saurus maintains control.
Richard is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Saurus looking to ground and pound but Richard is blocking nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
You get the feeling that Richard really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Saurus lands a big shot there that rocks Richard but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Saurus is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Richard can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Richard is still in real trouble! Can Saurus finish him?

Saurus has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Richard is forced to tap!
