The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sheilds tries to clinch up.

Tanaka fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Sheilds.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tanaka explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Tanaka scores with a push kick.
Sheilds tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Tanaka lands a nice looking kick to the body. Sheilds takes a step back to recover.
Sheilds could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Tanaka lands a leg kick that knocks Sheilds off balance momentarily.

Tanaka shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sheilds is trying to defend but Tanaka finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sheilds doesn't manage to clinch there - Tanaka circles away.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Tanaka! Sheilds is out on his feet! Tanaka rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Sheilds is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Sheilds is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
