Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Chin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colton Cates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Chin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Colton Cates!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chin with a hook.
No joy there for Chin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Chin swinging wilding here.
Chin throws out a loose jab but Cates uses good head movement to avoid it.
Chin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Chin misses with a series of wild punches.
Chin thows a left - swing and a miss!

Cates scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Cates advances to full mount.

Cates wants to finish this one by submission but Chin is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Cates.
Cates throwing strikes here but Chin is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cates sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cates throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Cates looking to secure an arm triangle but Chin defends it well.
Chin is breathing heavily.

Cates has control of Chin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Chin regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Chin trying desperately to get to his feet.

Cates is trying to take his opponent's back.
Chin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Chin tries to get out of the position.
Cates throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Cates looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Cates has control of Chin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Chin regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Chin is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Cates has taken his back.

Cates working for a choke but Chin is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Colton Cates dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Chin's corner calls for a 1-2. Chin obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Chin misses with a hook.
Cates shoots in looking for a takedown. Chin tries to sprawl out of it but Cates keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Cates changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chin tries to avoid it but Cates manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chin to the ground. Chin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cates slips a jab and a cross from Chin.
Chin misses with a wild combination.
Cates uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Chin.

Chin misses with a series of wild punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cates moves away from the strike by Chin.
Chin with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Chin throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Cates on the side of the head.
Mike Chin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cates is breathing heavily.
Chin looks to land a combination but Cates avoids it well.
Chin stalks Cates and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Cates's face. Cates staggers backwards, shaken.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nice defenses there by Cates.
Chin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cates manages to avoid it.
A big right from Chin misses.
Chin throws a shot to the body.
Chin with a poor takedown
and Cates counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Mike Chin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cates uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Chin.
Chin showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Cates.
Cates fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mike Chin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Colton Cates.
Cates misses with a takedown attempt - Chin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Chin misses with a combination
and Cates counters with a series of strikes. Chin will be more careful next time no doubt.
Cates shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chin as he avoids it easily.

Horrible takedown by Cates or perhaps it was just good defense by Chin which made him look bad.
Chin looks to land a combination but Cates avoids it well.
Cates looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Chin throws a series of punches but Cates avoids them all with ease.
Chin lands with a nice body punch.

Chin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cates slips a jab and a cross from Chin.
Cates dodges the punch combination from Chin.
Cates walks into a left hand.
Chin misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cates lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Chin sprawling to the canvas. Cates follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Chin hang on?


Chin is rocked!


It looks like Mike Chin has been cut.

Cates in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Chin tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Cates!
