The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kowalsky thuds his right hand into Nelson's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Kowalsky tries to clinch but Nelson moves out of range.
Kowalsky has a takedown stuffed.
Kowalsky fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nelson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Kowalsky counters with a stiff right hand.
Kowalsky wants to clinch.
Kowalsky tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kowalsky tries to clinch there but Nelson circles away.

Kowalsky gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kowalsky preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Kowalsky is trying to control the position but Nelson postures up.
Nelson throws a big elbow that misses.

Nelson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kowalsky. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kowalsky looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kowalsky had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Nelson defends it easily.
Nelson cracks Kowalsky with a solid left hand.

Nelson tries to free his leg and advance position but Kowalsky is retaining full guard.

Nelson won't allow Kowalsky to get back to his feet.
Nelson postures up and lands a big shot to Kowalsky's brow.

Kowalsky is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Nelson is aware though and is defending well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kowalsky working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Nelson.
Nelson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kowalsky working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nelson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nelson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Nelson stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Kowalsky has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Nelson manages to get his head free but now Kowalsky has transitioned to an armbar! Nelson grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Kowalsky! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jan Kowalsky!
Jan Kowalsky decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
