The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Atomic looking to score a takedown here. Hoost is defending well but Atomic drives through and ends up in Hoost's guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Hoost can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Atomic controls the pace. Atomic is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Atomic stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hoost swivels though and keeps the full guard. Hoost is trying to control the position but Atomic postures up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Atomic sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hoost's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Atomic is taking a breather. Hoost says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Hoost really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Atomic. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hoost avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Atomic. Atomic thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hoost's head. Atomic frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Atomic controlling his opponent.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Atomic will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Atomic sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Atomic scoring with strikes but Hoost is staying in there.
It looks like Ernesto Hoost has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Atomic working away from the top, dropping strikes.
That has opened up Ernesto Hoost's cut even more.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Ernesto Hoost's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Tom Atomic!
