Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Faija Fedo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Filipe Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Faija Fedo has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Faija Fedo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Filipe Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fedo fails with an attempt to clinch.
Fedo looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Mendes darts in and clinches Fedo up against the cage.

Mendes pulls guard.
Mendes has his hands on Fedo's head, controlling the position.
Fedo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Fedo wants to stand and escape but instead Mendes has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Mendes stands up and waves to Fedo to follow him.
Mendes fails with a takedown attempt.
Fedo tries for a takedown but Mendes circles away easily

and Mendes counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mendes.

Mendes breaks from the clinch.

Mendes closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mendes lands in his opponent's guard.
Mendes slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Mendes passes Fedo's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Mendes scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Fedo wants to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fedo is trying to stand.
Fedo tries to get to full guard but Mendes has control of the leg.
Mendes not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Well, if Mendes is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mendes closes the distance and clinches.
Fedo wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendes drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mendes goes for a takedown attempt but Fedo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Faija Fedo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Filipe Mendes.
Mendes takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Fedo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

and Mendes counters with a single leg into guard. Fedo didn't expect that.

Mendes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mendes working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Fedo's head.
Mendes sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Fedo's guard.

Mendes is trying to work for a kimura but Fedo is defending well.
Mendes lands strikes from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mendes wants to free his trapped foot but Fedo is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Mendes is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Mendes stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Fedo to get to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mendes shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Mendes has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Fedo defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Mendes.

Fedo is squirming around, avoiding Mendes's attempts to control the action.

Fedo wants to control but Mendes is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Mendes is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Fedo!
Mendes postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Fedo looks a forlorn figure.
Mendes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The referee warns Fedo that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Filipe Mendes has got the better of the ground game so far.

Mendes with shots to the head and body - Fedo looks very uncomfortable down there.
Mendes looking to control but Fedo is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Mendes cracks Fedo with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

The referee warns Fedo that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Fedo reaches up to try and control the position but Mendes seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Fedo rolls and tries to escape and now Mendes has his back!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Filipe Mendes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Mendes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Mendes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Fedo has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mendes is proving hard to escape from.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendes lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Fedo!
Mendes has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Fedo's face.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mendes moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Fedo has worked his arm free - good work by Fedo!
Fedo is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Mendes has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Mendes has hold of Fedo's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Fedo manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Faija Fedo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mendes lands with some strikes.
Mendes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Fedo tries to buck Mendes off but Mendes takes his back!

Mendes scores with punches from the back.
Mendes has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Mendes is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Fedo manages to reverse the position and now he's in Mendes's guard. Nice work there by Fedo.
Mendes has his hands on Fedo's head, controlling the position.

Mendes isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Fedo stacks Mendes on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Fedo!

Fedo tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Fedo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mendes, who protects the arm well.
Mendes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Fedo changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Fedo avoids the head kick by Mendes.

and Mendes counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Filipe Mendes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Mendes winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
