PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between That Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Phillips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phil Phillips will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Phil Phillips!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guy shoots in but Phillips avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Phillips misses with a series of wild punches.
Guy throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

It looks like Phil Phillips has been cut.
Phillips misses the shot to the body.
A right-left combo lands from Phillips.

It looks like That Guy has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fight stays on the outside here - Guy looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Phillips enables Guy to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Phillips manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Guy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Phillips swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Guy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Phillips manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Guy has Phillips in his guard.
Guy not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Guy wants to sweep here but Phillips controlling him for the moment.

We're going to have a standup here because That Guy wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Guy tries to close the distance and clinch but Phillips swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Guy drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Phillips keeping moving, preventing Guy from controlling successfully.
Guy content to stall in guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Guy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Guy is pushing down on Phillips's leg trying to pass to half guard. Phillips is fighting to maintain full guard but Guy has managed to sneak the leg through.
Guy lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Guy seems to be looking for submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Guy passes to side control.

Guy working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Phillips takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Guy is working to tighten is grip on Phillips's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Phillips has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Guy is really squeezing tight and eventually Phillips passes out! Guy breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
