Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Bader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thiago Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thiago Alves will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryan Bader! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thiago Alves! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Bader as Alves shoots in. Bader shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Alves tries to clinch up. Bader swats away the attempt to clinch by Alves. Alves wants to clinch. Alves fails with the takedown and Bader counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Alves wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Alves wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bader has him pressed against the ropes. Bader tries for a takedown. No joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bader keeps control of Alves as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Alves wants to get back to striking at distance but Bader won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round. Bader has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Alves is trying to keep an underhook but Bader manages to get the takedown into half guard. Alves is trying to stand.
Bader tries to pass the half guard into mount. Alves knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Bader passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Alves! Alves is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Alves is bucking up trying to escape but Bader cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Alves is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Bader cracks Alves with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Alves is rocked! Bader forces the positional change into back control. Alves is trying to get back to his feet but Bader has full control of the position and if anything, Alves has just worked his way into a worse spot. Alves is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Bader gets his way!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves fending off the submission attempt from Bader. Alves is trying to stand back up. Bader landing with strikes. Bader lands an elbow to the side of the head. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Alves is trying to stand back up. Bader is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Bader has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Alves manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bader scores with a takedown into Alves's guard. Alves wants to stand but Bader is controlling the position. Bader is pushing down on Alves's leg trying to pass to half guard. Alves is fighting to maintain full guard but Bader has managed to sneak the leg through. Bader slips a nice elbow through Alves's hands, connecting with Alves's forehead. Alves pushes Bader off looking to stand but Bader dives back in and keeps control.
Bader scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Alves wants to get back to his feet. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Bader is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Bader scoring with punches and elbows. Bader is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Alves has escaped the position, nice work there. Bader advances to mount. Alves trying desperately to get to his feet.
BOOM! Bader connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Alves is still in real trouble! Can Bader finish him? Alves's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Alves seems to have recovered his senses. Bader has hold of Alves's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Alves manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Alves wants to get back to his feet.
Bader lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryan Bader dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Alves with a lazy takedown attempt and Bader counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bader. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Alves wants to get back to his feet but Bader is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Alves wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Bader manages to pass to side control. Alves tries to kick Bader off but Bader keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Alves keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Bader prevents Alves from standing back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Excellent takedown into side control there by Alves. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Alves tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Ryan Bader overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Alves is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bader is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Bader wants to get back to full guard. Alves wants to stand up but Bader is controlling the position.
Bader is pressing down on Alves's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Alves tries to stand but Bader is controlling from the bottom. Bader is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Bader throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Alves stands up and waves to Bader to follow him. Bader misses with a series of wild punches.

Alves wants to stand but Bader is controlling the position. Alves has his feet on Bader's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Bader circles away from the clinch attempt and Bader counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Alves looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Bader lands with a nice combination. Alves backs away looking to recover. Bader shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Alves but Alves pushes him off and we're back to square one. Alves scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Alves decides to take the fight back to the feet. No luck for Bader with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ryan Bader. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bader changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alves looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Bader is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Alves knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Alves is trying to buck Bader off. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Bader tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alves wants to clinch. Alves gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily so Bader counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Alves is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Bader is controlling him. Bader trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Alves is looking to stand up but Bader isn't so interested in that idea. Bader wants to pass the guard but Alves is keeping the position. Alves wants to stand up but Bader is controlling him. Bader wants to get up but he can't break Alves's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Alves is looking to stand up but Bader isn't so interested in that idea. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Bader's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Alves utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Alves wants to stand but Bader is controlling the position. Bader working some strikes from top position. Alves wriggles free and stands up. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Alves slips under a jab. Alves doesn't manage to clinch there - Bader circles away.
Alves shoots in for a double leg but Bader sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Bader takes the fight into the clinch. Bader breaks the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bader misses with a takedown attempt - Alves sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Bader fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alves sprawls well initially but Bader persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Alves is trying to stand up here but Bader is controlling him well. Bader thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Alves's head. Alves pushes Bader off looking to stand but Bader dives back in and keeps control.
Bader seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Alves is trying to stand back up but Bader is controlling him

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Bader scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Bader is working for a submission of some sort.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Bader escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Alves gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Bader has a closed guard, preventing Alves from standing up. Bader tries to land a sweep but no joy. Alves stands up from guard. Let's bang! This has been an exciting period of action! Bader circles away from the clinch attempt and Bader counters with a single leg into guard. Alves didn't expect that. Bader prevents Alves from getting back to his feet. Thiago Alves has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Bader is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Bader lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Alves throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. And that's the end of the fight! Ryan Bader showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bader, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
