PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bernard Chapin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Hubert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chapin comes to the cage accompanied by Eminence Front-The Who. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bernard Chapin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Hubert!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Russell Pearce and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hubert tries to work over Chapin's front leg with a kick but Chapin checks it.
Chapin throws a right hand that Hubert ducks under and follows up with a left that Hubert also avoids with ease.
Horrible takedown by Hubert or perhaps it was just good defense by Chapin which made him look bad.
Hubert avoids the body shot from Chapin.
Chapin shoots in and drives through. Hubert sprawls well.
Hubert lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Chapin wants to clinch up but Hubert keeps it at a distance.
Hubert closes this distance looking for a takedown but Chapin circles away.
Hubert shoots in looking for a takedown. Chapin tries to sprawl out of it but Hubert keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Chapin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Hubert enables Chapin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hubert manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chapin accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Chapin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Hubert counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Nice takedown defense from Chapin. No joy for Hubert on that attempt.
Chapin looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Chapin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Chapin is breathing heavily.

Hubert gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Hubert lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Chapin or not.

Hubert manages to break the clinch.
Hubert tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Chapin swivels and escapes.

Chapin thuds a left hand into Hubert's body.

Hubert is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hubert pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hubert looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Chapin swinging wildly here.

Hubert moves away from the strike by Chapin.
Hubert shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chapin but Chapin pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hubert tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Chapin is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Chapin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Chapin showed some decent athleticism there.
Chapin is stalling here. Hubert is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Chapin seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Hubert has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The referee is keeping an eye on Chapin - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Hubert seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Chapin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Chapin scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hubert doesn't seem bothered though.

A frustrated look appears on Chapin's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Hubert has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Chapin uses from the top position.

Chapin is looking to advance position but Hubert has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bernard Chapin.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chapin, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
