Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hector Alves! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jack Fadden! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves lands a jab-cross combination. Fadden misses with an uppercut. Alves lands a really nice looking cross but Fadden seems unphased.
Alves shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Alves was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alves controlling from the full mount. Alves lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Alves controlling the position easily from mount. Alves looking to control but Fadden is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Fadden can't escape the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alves punishing his opponent with strikes. Fadden tries to get back to half guard but can't. Fadden in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Alves is trying to control here but Fadden has managed to regain half guard.
Fadden is refusing to be controlled, as Alves sits in half guard. Alves has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Alves is figuring out what he wants to do next. Alves trying to control the action but Fadden is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fadden slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Fadden trying to strike off his back.
Fadden has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Alves can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Alves is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Fadden throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Fadden throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Alves escapes and throws Fadden's legs to the side, diving into side control! Alves wants to control but Fadden is keeping him busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fadden manages to work his way to half guard, despite Alves's best efforts. Alves in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Fadden tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Alves!
