Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, George Stellben! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kenneth Rogers! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stellben slaps away a takedown attempt from Rogers, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nice takedown defense from Rogers. No joy for Stellben on that attempt. Stellben clobbers Rogers with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Nice takedown defense from Stellben. No joy for Rogers on that attempt. Stellben closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Stellben lands in his opponent's guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Rogers is trying to control the position but Stellben postures up. Rogers tries to land a sweep but no joy. Stellben stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rogers swivels though and keeps the full guard. Stellben landing with the ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Stellben accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Stellben makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Rogers not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rogers escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Stellben gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Stellben trying to control but Rogers is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stellben lands a couple of digs. Stellben trying to control the position from guard on top but Rogers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Rogers wants to sweep here but Stellben controlling him for the moment. Stellben content to stall in guard here. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Stellben's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Stellben looking to pass the guard. Stellben connects with a couple of short punches. Rogers is trying to keep Stellben in close.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rogers wants to sweep here but Stellben controlling him for the moment. Stellben is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Stellben trying to control the position from guard on top but Rogers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Stellben in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Stellben has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Rogers has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stellben can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Stellben content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Rogers looks gassed! Stellben scoring with punches to the head and body.
Rogers is rocked! Stellben lands a couple of elbows. Rogers is still in real trouble! Can Stellben finish him? Stellben arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Rogers's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). George Stellben! George Stellben retains his welterweight title! In his post fight interview, George Stellben started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
