Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esa Notkonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Esa Notkonen will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mark Mendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Esa Notkonen! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendez looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Mendez tries to free his leg and advance position but Notkonen is retaining full guard. Mendez decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Notkonen, up you get! Notkonen throws a lazy right hand but Mendez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. An inside leg kick lands from Notkonen. Notkonen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Notkonen throws a leg kick but Mendez moved away. Notkonen throws a head kick but Mendez moves out of range.
Notkonen tries to clinch up but Mendez circles away and keeps his distance. Mendez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Notkonen pinned against the cage. Notkonen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Mendez fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Notkonen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mendez manages to avoid it. Mendez tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Mendez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendez fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Mendez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mendez is breathing heavily. Mendez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Notkonen stuffs the takedown. Notkonen scores with a push kick. Notkonen misses with a wild body shot. Mendez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Mendez passes the guard and advances to mount! Mendez goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Notkonen is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mendez working for a triangle but Notkonen defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mendez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Mendez wants to sweep here but Notkonen controlling him for the moment. Mendez trying to control the position.
Notkonen wants to stand but Mendez has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendez trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Mendez tries to land a sweep but no joy. Mendez kicks Notkonen off and gets to his feet. Mendez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Mendez missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Notkonen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mendez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mendez tries to pass the half guard into mount. Notkonen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Mendez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendez thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Mendez is looking for a kimura but Notkonen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Mendez to get the leverage. Mendez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Notkonen tries to kick Mendez off but Mendez keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Mendez is working for a submission of some sort.
Notkonen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Mendez looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Mark Mendez will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Mendez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Mendez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Mendez cracks Notkonen with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
It looks like Esa Notkonen has been cut. Mendez controlling from mount. Mendez punishing his opponent with strikes. Mendez misses with a head shot. A nice elbow there by Mendez. Notkonen is breathing heavily. Mendez is trying to take his opponent's back.

Notkonen is rocked! Mendez has isolated one of Notkonen's arms. Notkonen looking to fight him off but Mendez twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
