Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cong Mao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edwin Meadows (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Meadows is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Punky's Whips. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cong Mao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 1, fighting out of New York, Edwin Meadows!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Chad Campbell and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meadows moves in looking to clinch but Mao pushes him off.
Meadows throws a right hand that Mao ducks under and follows up with a left that Mao also avoids with ease.
Mao shoots for a takedown but Meadows saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mao shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Meadows as he jumps to the side.
Mao takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Mao fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cong Mao. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mao shoots in for a takedown but Meadows shows good takedown defense.

Mao shoots in and bounces Meadows off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Meadows trying to keep a closed guard but Mao is proving a slippery customer.
Mao wants to control from the top but Meadows keeps moving.
Mao throws an elbow that misses. Meadows uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mao's guard. Nice move by Meadows!

Meadows in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mao on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mao tries to get out of the position.

Mao has his foot on Meadows's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Meadows works his way back into a safe position though.

Mao avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Meadows throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mao works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Meadows won't allow Mao to sweep him here.
Meadows stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mao swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Meadows is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Meadows passes Mao's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Mao knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Meadows on the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Meadows frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Meadows jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Mao manages to avoid the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Meadows misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
You can see the frustration on Mao's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Meadows tries to advance to mount but can't.
Mao tries to bench press Meadows off him but Meadows keeps the position.

Mao tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Meadows wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Meadows misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Meadows tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Meadows is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mao is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mao is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mao tries to buck Meadows off but Meadows is having none of it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Meadows throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Meadows is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mao sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Mao swats away the attempt to clinch by Meadows.
Meadows bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Mao's head.
Mao fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Meadows manages to avoid it.
Cong Mao is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mao shoots in looking for a takedown. Meadows tries to sprawl out of it but Mao keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Meadows manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Meadows looks to land a right hand but Mao moved out of range.
Meadows tries to close the distance and clinch but Mao swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Mao has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Meadows avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Mao has Meadows pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Meadows manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Meadows pushes Mao off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A punch lands to the side of Mao 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Mao throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Meadows's waist but Meadows gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mao off to one side.
Mao closes the distance and clinches up with Meadows, looking for a takedown. Mao pushes Meadows against the cage but Meadows circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mao shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Meadows sprawls well. Meadows wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mao gets slowly back to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Meadows escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cong Mao will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Meadows is looking to clinch but Mao is avoiding it.
Meadows stalks Mao and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mao's face. Mao staggers backwards, shaken.
Mao takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well Meadows has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
