Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Miguel Armando! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Charles Bennett! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Armando gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Bennett keeps control of Armando as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Bennett breaks the clinch.
Bennett tries to clinch up but Armando circles away and keeps his distance. Armando drives through and clinches with Bennett against the ropes.
Bennett has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Armando avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Armando has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Bennett gets control of Armando's arms and successfully pulls guard. Bennett will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Bennett throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Armando wants to get up but he can't break Bennett's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Armando stands and steps away. Bennett gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. The fight moves into the clinch position. Armando is trying to break free. Bennett gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bennett keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Armando's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bennett postures up in Armando's guard and throws a big left but Armando blocks it. Bennett working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Armando's head. Bennett working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Armando wants to stand up but Bennett is controlling him. Bennett throwing strikes from guard but Armando blocks nicely. Bennett with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Bennett is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Bennett missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Armando is breathing heavily. Bennett trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Armando preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Bennett is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Armando is rocked! Bennett loads up on a big left hand. Armando felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Bennett looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Armando can't hide his disappointment, as Bennett celebrates the victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Charles Bennett! Charles Bennett tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
