Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Julio Cesar Chavez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Clendennin! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Joseph Jones and Chad Campbell.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chavez darts in trying to clinch
and Clendennin counters with a nice double leg into guard. Clendennin controls from within his opponent's guard.
Chavez is working an open guard so Clendennin takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Clendennin drives through with a takedown into Chavez's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Chavez controls Clendennin momentarily but Clendennin frees himself. Chavez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Clendennin. Clendennin throwing strikes from guard but Chavez blocks nicely. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Clendennin has eaten all the pies! Clendennin is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
 That's one minute gone in the round.
Clendennin drops back looking for a leg! Chavez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chavez manages to kick Clendennin off! Clendennin jumps back into Chavez's guard. Clendennin is stalling in the full guard. Clendennin is in close to Chavez's body, working some short punches and elbows. Clendennin postures up.
Clendennin stands up from Chavez's guard - Clendennin perhaps looking for a knockout. Chavez cracks Clendennin with a right hand to the side of the head.
 That's two minutes gone in the round.
Clendennin gets the takedown into side control. Clendennin remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Let's hope that Clendennin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. You can see the frustration on Chavez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Clendennin takes a little break here. Chavez wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Chavez is looking to regain half guard here but Clendennin keeps moving and retains side control.
 The ref stands the fighters back up. Michael Clendennin was stalling too much, according to the referee. Clendennin pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Chavez lands with an uppercut that bounces Clendennin off the cage and back into range.

It looks like Michael Clendennin has been cut.
Chavez lands a left and a right that send Clendennin crashing to the mat, dazed. Chavez thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Chavez tries to clinch up but Clendennin circles away and keeps his distance. Chavez throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Clendennin looks gassed! Chavez lands a nice hook to Clendennin's body. Clendennin takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Oooooh!!! Chavez has knocked Clendennin down with a huge combo! Chavez steps away and waves a wobbly Clendennin back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Clendennin is rocked! Chavez lands a nice shot to the body.
Clendennin is still on wobbly legs! Can Chavez finish him?
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Chavez jabs Clendennin to the body, keeping him at a distance. Chavez lands a jab to Clendennin's midsection. Clendennin seems to have recovered his senses. Chavez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Chavez ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Chavez cracks Clendennin with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Chavez has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Clendennin to stand back up!

That has opened up Michael Clendennin's cut even more. Chavez drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Clendennin's head, knocking him out cold! Chavez is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.
