PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Big Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dickson Yamada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dickson Yamada will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Big Boy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dickson Yamada!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boy circles away from the clinch attempt.
A solid body kick from Yamada.
Yamada scores with a head kick.

Yamada instigates a clinch.

Yamada escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Boy lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Yamada at a distance.
Yamada with a jab.
A combination from Boy does no damage.
Boy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Yamada defends it nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Yamada enables Boy to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Yamada manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Yamada working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Boy doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Boy manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Boy looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Boy seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Yamada for as long as he can get away with.

Yamada looking for a guillotine here but Boy defends easily.
Boy is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

We're going to have a standup here because Big Boy wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Yamada tries to clinch there but Boy circles away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Yamada darts in and clinches Boy up against the cage.
Yamada throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Boy is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Yamada pulls him back up using the underhooks.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Boy is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Yamada is defending well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Big Boy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Yamada manages to break the clinch.
Boy lands with a nice combination. Yamada backs away looking to recover.
Yamada wants to clinch.

Boy bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Yamada is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
A lull in the action here.
Boy lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Boy wants to control but Yamada is keeping him busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yamada tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Yamada is desperately trying to improve his position but Boy has a good base and remains in mount.
Yamada is bucking up trying to escape but Boy cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Boy working the ground and pound effectively.
Boy lands a heavy elbow.
Yamada tries to reverse the position but Boy maintains control.
Boy tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Boy content just to control the position here.
Boy can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Yamada is looking to escape.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boy lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Boy sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Boy looking to control but Yamada is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Boy postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Yamada looks a forlorn figure.
Boy looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Yamada flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Yamada tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boy lands a big shot there that rocks Yamada but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Big Boy dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Yamada tries to close the distance and clinch but Boy swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Yamada fails to land with a series of punches.
Boy throws a nice looking combination but Yamada bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Yamada tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Boy closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Yamada did well to prevent Boy getting side control.
Yamada is looking to improve his position.
Boy takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Boy is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Yamada is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Big Boy!
An out of breath Big Boy thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
