PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Scott Cain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Speed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Speed has chosen Tough as Steel by Wolfsbane as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 2, fighting out of St Petersburg, Scott Cain!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Scott Speed!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Dmitry Maklakov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cain looks to land a combination. Speed sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Speed swinging wildly here.
Scott Cain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cain throws a nice inside leg kick.
Speed swings for the body but Cain moves out of range.
Nice shot by Speed.
Cain is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Speed.
Speed drops his hands momentarily and Cain takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Cain fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Speed manages to avoid it.
Cain swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Cain drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Cain trying to control the position but Speed is working away.
You can see the frustration on Speed's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Speed is looking to get back to his feet here but Cain is keeping cool and he's managed to take Speed's back.

Speed trying to control the action but Cain just sinks the hooks in.
Speed staying busy and making it hard for Cain to control.

Cain has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Speed is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cain throwing wild punches that miss their target.

Cain is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Cain avoiding Speed 's attempts to control his hands.
Cain slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Speed is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Cain off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cain is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Speed defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Speed is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Cain goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Speed escapes and is now in half guard on top.
Cain wants to get back to full guard.

Cain is working hard here to advance position.

Speed trying to control but Cain is working from the bottom.

Speed got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cain has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Speed has managed to get both his arms back between Cain's legs - danger averted.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cain is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Cain stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Speed.
Cain throws an overhand right that lands on Speed's shoulder, as Speed tries to avoid the shot.
Speed avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cain pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Cain wants to clinch.
Cain ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Speed avoids a punch combination nicely.
Cain swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Speed scores with a punch to the head.
Scott Speed is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cain swings for the body but Speed moves out of range.
Cain's corner calls for a 1-2. Cain obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Cain throws a push kick but Speed slaps the foot to one side.
Speed throws a hook but Cain blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Speed looks to land a combination but Cain avoids it well.
Cain on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Scott Speed is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A chopping leg kick lands by Cain.
Speed keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Speed keeps Cain at a distance using the push kick.
Speed slips under a jab from Cain.
Cain thuds his right hand into Speed's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Cain rushes Speed and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Speed is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Speed is trying to force a seperation but Cain has the dominant position.

Cain escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Scott Cain is winning the standup battle so far.
Cain misses with a leg kick
and Speed connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A shot to the liver by Speed. Beautiful body shot.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cain misses with a hook. Speed ducked under it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Speed throws a head kick that Cain semi-blocks.
Cain misses with a leg kick
and Speed counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.


Cain is rocked!
Cain misses the shot to the body.
Oh Cain is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Speed drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Cain right on the button. Cain goes down! Speed follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Speed gets the win via TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Scott Speed! Scott Speed retains his featherweight title!
Scott Speed decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
