PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Freddy Medina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cody Weston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Freddy Medina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cody Weston!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Medina takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Medina tries to clinch up.
Medina moves to clinch but Weston breaks away

so Weston counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Medina not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Weston passes Medina's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Medina is trying to stand.
Weston performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Weston is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Medina sees it coming and defends easily.

Weston is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Medina has managed to free his arm - good work.
Medina really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Medina wants to improve his position but Weston is controlling well.

Weston seems to be looking for submissions.
Medina wants to get back to his feet.

Weston decides to return to a standing position.
Medina wants to clinch but Weston slips to the side

and Weston counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Medina's guard now.

Weston stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Weston shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Medina but Medina pushes him off and we're back to square one.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Medina uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Weston.

Weston moves into the clinch.
Medina is pressed up against the cage. Weston has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Medina down to the mat. Medina avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Medina tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Weston paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Weston shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Medina as he jumps to the side.
Freddy Medina has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cody Weston.

Weston fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Medina, pushing him back against the cage.
Weston is looking to take this one to the mat.
Weston looks gassed!

Medina scores with a knee to the head.
Medina tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Weston avoids it.
Weston jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Medina walks away with a smile on his face. Weston gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Medina avoids the head kick by Weston.
Weston shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Medina as he jumps to the side.
Weston avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Medina is looking to clinch.
Medina tries to close the distance and clinch but Weston swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Weston clinches up against the cage.
Knees in the clinch landing for Medina.

Weston jumps guard but Medina turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Weston avoiding damage as Medina throws knees to the body.

Weston is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Medina to keep the fight standing.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Medina has managed to clinch.

Weston pulls guard effortlessly.
Medina wants to control from the top but Weston keeps moving.
Weston is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Medina postures up in Weston's guard and throws a big left but Weston blocks it.

Weston kicks Medina off and gets to his feet.

Medina might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Medina is trying to control but can't.
Medina is trying to stand back up but Weston is controlling him
Weston slows the pace down in half guard.
Weston throws a strike but Medina avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Weston wants to control from the top but Medina keeps moving.

Weston stands up and waves to Medina to follow him.
Cody Weston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Medina closes the distance and clinches.
Weston takes an elbow to the forehead.
Medina throws an elbow that misses.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Medina.
Weston tries to circle away but Medina has him pinned against the cage.
Medina lands a knee to the head.
Medina tries to land knees in the clinch but Weston avoids the damage to the body.

Medina tries to land a knee to the head but Weston blocks with his arms.

Weston ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Weston no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Weston bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Medina's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Medina is working an open guard so Weston takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Weston changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Medina fights it off and pushes away nicely.
No luck for Weston with that takedown attempt.

Horrible takedown by Weston or perhaps it was just good defense by Medina which made him look bad.

Medina moves in looking to clinch but Weston pushes him off.

and Weston counters with a shoot takedown. Medina fights it but they end up in guard.

Weston is keen to just control but Medina is a slippery customer.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Weston seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Freddy Medina has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
