PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tom Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wiley King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). King comes into a darkened arena with his song building. counterstrike kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tom Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wiley King!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Green clinches with his opponent.
Green tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Green connects with a knee to the head.
King letting Green take a breather here.
King effectively controlling the action here.

Green breaks the clinch.

Green closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Green prevents King from breaking the clinch.
Green tries to land knees in the clinch but King avoids the damage to the body.
Green looking to slow down the pace here.

King working hard to break the clinch.
Green manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
A frustrated look appears on King's face as he tries to break the clinch.
King lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Green gets control of King's arms and successfully pulls guard. Green will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Green is working an open guard so King takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Green closes the distance and pushes King back into the cage.
Green could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Green's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
King fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Green drives through and clinches with King against the cage.
Green misses with a knee strike.
Green tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
King will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Green up against the cage.

King tries to pull guard but Green holds him up against the cage and eventually King drops back down to his feet.

Green escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wiley King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Green throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around King's waist but King gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Green off to one side.

Green has taken the fight to the clinch.
Green tries to circle away but King has him pinned against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

King gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
King scoring with punches to the head and body.

King stands up and waves to Green to follow him.

Green takes the fight into the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tom Green will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Green has his foot on King's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. King works his way back into a safe position though.

Green escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. King gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Green looking for a guillotine here but King defends easily.

King scores with punches from side control.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Green on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Green tries to bench press King off him but King keeps the position.

King is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Green is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

King decides to stand back up.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Green clinches up with King and pushes him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
King misses with an elbow strike.
King wants to take the fight to the mat but Green manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Green tries to land a knee to the head but King blocks with his arms.
King goes for a takedown attempt but Green pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Green fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with King, pushing him back against the cage.

King ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. King no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Green in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

King has his foot on Green's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Green works his way back into a safe position though.
Green looking to sit in guard and control but King gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
King is looking to work some ground and pound but Green has wrist control.
King with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Green swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Green is looking for a triangle but King pushes his legs off easily.

King is pushing down on Green's leg trying to pass to half guard. Green is fighting to maintain full guard but King has managed to sneak the leg through.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wiley King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


King shoots in for a double leg but Green sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
King stuffs the takedown attempt from Green. Green gets slowly back to his feet.
Green throws a head kick that misses.
Green stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Green wants it to stay on the feet.
Green leaves King with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Tom Green has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wiley King.
Green closes the distance and clinches up with King, looking for a takedown. Green pushes King against the cage but King circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

King drives through with a takedown into guard.

Green escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. King gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

King is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
King performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Green has hold of King's hands but King slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
King has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
King working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

King stands up out of the half guard.
Tom Green is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Excellent takedown into side control there by King.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

King stands up.

Green clinches up against the cage.

King has had enough of the clinch but Green keeps him there for the moment.
King can't get the takedown.
Green is trying to stall.
Green wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for King. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

King is trying to drag Green to the mat but Green just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Wiley King comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think King has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A determined Wiley King didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
