Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Brookins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Liam James! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James shoots in but Brookins avoids the takedown attempt easily. Brookins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Good work by James as he checks the leg kick. No luck for James with that takedown attempt. Paul Brookins has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liam James. Brookins swings away with a body shot that misses
and James counters with a two punch combo. James defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Brookins. James fails with the takedown. James shoots in looking for a takedown. Brookins tries to sprawl out of it but James keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Brookins manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Brookins misses the shot to the body. James fails with a takedown attempt. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Brookins misses with a takedown attempt - James sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. James scores with a takedown into Brookins's guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as James accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. James wanted to stand there but Brookins had control of the position. Brookins is pulling down on James's head. It's preventing any offense from James, at least for the moment. Brookins is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. James tries to stand but Brookins is controlling from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brookins is looking to sinch up a triangle. James throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Brookins's body to avoid the submission. Brookins has instead reached around James's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Brookins arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Paul Brookins! Paul Brookins decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
