Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dog Catcher! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlie Phelps! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Phelps tries for a takedown but Catcher sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Catcher shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Catcher was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Catcher knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Phelps on the ground. Catcher wants to control the pace but Phelps is squirming around nicely. Phelps is looking to get to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The referee warns Phelps that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Phelps is rocked! Catcher raining down shots from the mount! Phelps is still in real trouble! Can Catcher finish him? Catcher lands with some strikes. Phelps is trying to escape the mount.
Catcher can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Phelps is looking to escape. Phelps seems to have recovered his senses. Catcher fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
That's one minute gone in the round. Catcher putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Phelps is trying to escape the mount.
Catcher connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Catcher working away from the top, dropping strikes. Catcher lands a heavy elbow. Catcher has control of Phelps's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Phelps regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Phelps is in all sorts of trouble here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Phelps is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Catcher working away from the top, dropping strikes. Catcher swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Phelps is now in Catcher's guard. A big mistake from Catcher there, giving up the dominant position! Phelps works a leg free and moves into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Catcher is breathing heavily. Catcher is looking to improve his position.
Catcher misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Catcher won't allow Phelps to pass to mount. Catcher is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Phelps's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Phelps's back! Phelps rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Catcher is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Catcher missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Catcher is tying to control. Phelps wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Phelps looking for submissions off his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. A nice combination there by Catcher.
It looks like Carlie Phelps has been cut. Phelps shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Catcher counters with a takedown into side control. Phelps takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Phelps is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Catcher's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Phelps is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Catcher pulls his head out easily. Phelps gets full guard. Phelps working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Catcher doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Catcher manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Phelps had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Catcher is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Phelps Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Catcher's back instead. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dog Catcher dominated that round. The cut man is working on Carlie Phelps's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Phelps closes the distance looking to clinch and Catcher counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Catcher looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Phelps with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Phelps wants to get back to full guard. Dog Catcher overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Phelps is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Catcher pulls his head out easily. Catcher moves into full mount! Phelps won't be happy about that! Phelps swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Phelps is wriggling around trying to escape.
Catcher lands a big shot there that rocks Phelps but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Catcher lands a big elbow. Catcher landing strikes from the mount and Phelps is in trouble!
That's one minute gone in the round. Phelps takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Phelps regains half guard. Catcher prevents Phelps from improving his position. Catcher trying to control from half guard but Phelps is working away. Catcher is looking to advance position but Phelps won't allow it. Phelps taking some punishment here, with Catcher in his half guard. Phelps tries to get to full guard but Catcher has control of the leg. Catcher seems to be working for a kimura but Phelps defends the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Phelps is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Catcher is tapping! Great win for Phelps!
