PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dave Waters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and AJ Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson has chosen Iron Man, Black Sabbath as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Waters connects with a crisp jab.
Waters jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Nelson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Waters is fending him off so far but Nelson persists. Nope, Waters circles away and we're back to standing.
Waters looks to score with a jab to the body but Nelson is just out of range.
Waters stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Waters wants it to stay on the feet.
Waters fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nelson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nelson throws a one two combo.
Waters moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Waters tries to clinch there but Nelson circles away.

Nelson gets a double leg takedown into Waters's guard.

Nelson trying to control but Waters is working from the bottom.

Nelson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Waters is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Nelson, into his guard.

Nelson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Waters escapes and throws Nelson's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Waters stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Nelson misses with a takedown attempt - Waters sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Dave Waters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of AJ Nelson.

Nelson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Waters sprawls well. Waters wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nelson gets slowly back to his feet.

Nelson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Waters is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Nelson.

Waters stands up and we're back to a striking position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Dave Waters will probably get the nod.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Nelson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Waters walks away with a smile on his face. Nelson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Waters scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Nelson shoots in for a takedown but Waters shows good takedown defense.

Nelson gets tackled into the cage by Waters. Waters maintains the clinch.

Nelson prevents a body shot from Waters.
Waters tries a body shot but Nelson blocks it.
Waters is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Waters lands a shoulder strike.
Waters misses with a body punch.
Nelson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Nelson jumps guard but Waters stands there with Nelson around his waist. Nelson gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Waters scores with a nice hook to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Nelson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Nelson shoots in looking for a takedown but Waters manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Nelson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Nelson tries to bum rush Waters with a series of wild strikes but Waters uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Nelson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Waters to his feet.
