Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Masatacu Oyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Nichols (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Oyama might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Masutatsu Oyama 10 DAN. Masatacu Oyama could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Chris Nichols's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Masatacu Oyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chris Nichols!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Dmitry Maklakov and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nichols misses with a head kick.
Nichols throws a body punch but Oyama moves out of range.
Chris Nichols seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oyama throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nichols.
Nichols showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Oyama.
Oyama throws a head kick but Nichols moves out of range.
Nichols misses with a head kick.
Nichols avoids the head kick by Oyama.
Oyama misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nichols will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Oyama lands with a thumping leg kick.
Oyama stuffs the takedown attempt from Nichols. Nichols gets slowly back to his feet.
Nichols connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Nichols throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Nichols throws a head kick but Oyama moves out of range.
Nichols dives in and grabs Oyama's left leg, looking for a takedown. Oyama pushes down on Nichols's head and hops out.
Masatacu Oyama has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Nichols.
Oyama misses with a head kick.
Nichols throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Oyama.


It looks like Masatacu Oyama has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Nichols fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Oyama, pushing him back against the cage.

A short uppercut from Nichols.
Nichols tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Oyama breaks the clinch.
Oyama pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A head kick misses from Nichols.
Oyama displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nichols throws out the jab.

Nichols looking to score a takedown here. Oyama is defending well but Nichols drives through and ends up in Oyama's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Nichols controls from within his opponent's guard.
Nichols advances position into side control!
Nichols trying to control the action but Oyama is working from the bottom.

Nichols tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Nichols controlling the position.
Oyama might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Nichols is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Oyama has escaped the position, nice work there.

Nichols thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Nichols tries for a kimura but Oyama is defending well.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nichols is trying to get an arm triangle but Oyama is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nichols just content to control the position.

Nichols working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Nichols is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Oyama has escaped the position, nice work there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Nichols tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Oyama misses with a body shot.

Nichols feints and as Oyama raises his hands in defense, Nichols changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Oyama keeping moving, preventing Nichols from controlling successfully.

Nichols thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Nichols decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Oyama, up you get!
Oyama throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nichols throws a head kick but Oyama moves out of range.
Masatacu Oyama is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nichols throws a sloppy head kick and Oyama moves out of range easily.

Nichols scores with a takedown into Oyama's guard.
Oyama keeping full guard, as Nichols tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nichols content to stall in guard here.

Nichols drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Oyama dives on top into guard.

Nichols has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Oyama should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Nichols has tightened it up now! Oyama should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Chris Nichols!
An out of breath Chris Nichols thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
