Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Urie Sergeyev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vadislov Pavlov! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pavlov tries to close the distance and clinch but Sergeyev swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Sergeyev looks to land a combination but Pavlov avoids it well. Pavlov tries to clinch up. Urie Sergeyev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sergeyev rushes Pavlov and presses him up against the cage. Pavlov putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Sergeyev in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Pavlov gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Pavlov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Sergeyev is trying to keep Pavlov in close.
Pavlov drops back looking for a leg! Sergeyev is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sergeyev manages to kick Pavlov off! Pavlov jumps back into Sergeyev's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pavlov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sergeyev is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Pavlov tries to free his leg and advance position but Sergeyev is retaining full guard. Pavlov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pavlov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Sergeyev looking to control but Pavlov passes into half guard.
Sergeyev has a hand on Pavlov's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Pavlov takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pavlov is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Sergeyev to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Sergeyev shrugs it off. Sergeyev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pavlov on the ground. Sergeyev is desperately trying to improve his position but Pavlov has a good base and remains in mount. Pavlov quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Pavlov but it's paid off an Sergeyev is forced to tap! Nice work by Pavlov.
