The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rook shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cruz sprawls well. Cruz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rook gets slowly back to his feet.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Rook crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Cruz - the referee stops the clock and Rook gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Cruz. Rook manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

No joy there for Cruz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

The crowd cheers as Cruz lands an impressive looking overhand right. Rook doesn't seem phased though.
A telegraphed right hand from Cruz misses the target.
Cruz slaps away a takedown attempt from Rook, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Rook misses with a series of wild punches.
Cruz clobbers Rook with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cruz uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Rook.

Cruz drops Rook with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Rook! Cruz dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
