Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Djimon Mahama! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Leon Souza! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mahama tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Leon Souza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A telegraphed right hand from Mahama misses the target. Mahama misses with a head kick.
Souza has taken the fight to the clinch.
Mahama escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Souza drives through with a takedown into guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Mahama wants to sweep but no luck. Souza landing some decent shots from guard. Mahama looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Souza drops back looking for a leg! Mahama is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mahama manages to kick Souza off! Souza jumps back into Mahama's guard. Souza pushing down on Mahama's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mahama is trying to get back to full guard. Souza is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Mahama!

Souza is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mahama to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mahama shrugs it off. Mahama tries to reverse the position but Souza maintains control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Souza has control of Mahama's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Mahama regains control of the situation pretty easily.

It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mahama defends it well. Mahama looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Souza is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Souza is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Mahama pushes Souza off looking to stand but Souza dives back in and keeps control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mahama actively working from the bottom here. Souza is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mahama sees it coming and defends easily. Mahama is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Souza pulls his head out easily. Souza is trying to work for a kimura but Mahama is defending well.
Mahama has one foot on Souza's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Souza has his takedown stuffed and Mahama counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Souza looks gassed! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mahama changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Souza looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Souza tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mahama wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Leon Souza will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Leon Souza is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Mahama tries to close the distance and clinch up but Souza swats him away and circles back towards the center. Souza tries for a takedown but Mahama circles away easily and Mahama counters with a shoot takedown. Souza fights it but they end up in guard. Mahama drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mahama jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mahama's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Souza is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Mahama is in close to Souza's body, working some short punches and elbows. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Souza is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Souza has a closed guard, preventing Mahama from standing up. Mahama stands and steps away. Souza gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Souza is breathing heavily.

Souza is rocked! Mahama clinches up against the cage. Souza is still on wobbly legs! Can Mahama finish him? Mahama has hold of one of Souza's legs. Souza is fighting the takedown attempt but Mahama gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Mahama got a little sloppy there for a moment and Souza has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mahama has managed to get both his arms back between Souza's legs - danger averted. Mahama cracks Souza with a solid left hand. Souza is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Mahama gets to his feet. Souza looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mahama cracks Souza with a left hook right on the temple and Souza goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Mahama lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Souza is OK!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Djimon Mahama! A relieved looking Djimon Mahama thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
