PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jon Halladay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pravi Jebac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Halladay comes into the arena with By the Way blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Halladay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pravi Jebac!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jebac darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Jebac is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jebac throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Halladay to regain full guard.

Halladay is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jebac defends well.

Halladay looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jebac's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Jebac trying to control but Halladay is working from the bottom.
Jebac postures up.

Halladay looking for subs off his back but Jebac has passed one foot through into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jebac throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Halladay tries to roll over but Jebac keeps him under control.
Halladay makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Halladay.

Jebac drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Halladay manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Jebac has Halladay in his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Halladay lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Jebac holds on and takes a little breather.
Halladay not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Halladay missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Halladay postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jebac keeping full guard, as Halladay tries to pass.
Halladay is looking to work some ground and pound but Jebac has wrist control.
Halladay throws a strike but Jebac rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Halladay working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jebac doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jebac manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jebac won't allow Halladay to sweep him here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Halladay is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Halladay might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Halladay working a defensive guard but Jebac manages to pass into side control anyway.
Halladay tries to bench press Jebac off him but Jebac keeps the position.
Halladay parries the strikes from Jebac easily there. Jebac is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Halladay to escape.
Halladay is looking for a sweep.
Halladay can't do much from the bottom here.
Halladay gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Halladay is trying to get back to full guard.
Halladay wants to control but Jebac is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are battling for position here. Halladay manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Jebac has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Halladay is proving hard to escape from.
Halladay is trying to keep Jebac in close.
Halladay lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jebac!

Halladay moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Jebac has worked his arm free - good work by Jebac!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Halladay wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jebac, who protects the arm well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Halladay is trying to get an arm triangle but Jebac is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Halladay dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jebac looks for the body kick but Halladay saw that one coming.
Halladay shoots in and drives through. Jebac sprawls well.
Jebac is looking to land body kicks.
Halladay shoots in for a takedown but Jebac shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jebac has a takedown stuffed.
Jebac tries to clinch there but Halladay circles away.

Halladay throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jebac was covering up waiting for the punch and Halladay finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Halladay throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jebac works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Jebac is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Halladay is aware though and is defending well.

Jebac is looking to stand up but Halladay isn't so interested in that idea.

Halladay has gone for a leg lock! Jebac slips out almost immediately though and dives into Halladay's guard.
Jebac must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Halladay has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Jebac off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Halladay catches Jebac with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Horrible takedown by Jebac or perhaps it was just good defense by Halladay which made him look bad.
Halladay connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Jebac's hands.
Halladay avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Halladay bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Halladay tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Halladay has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jebac can't do much from the bottom here.
Jebac tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Halladay is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jebac is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Halladay taking a break here but Jebac is having none of it and regains half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Halladay is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jebac defends it well.
Jebac wants to improve his position but Halladay is controlling well.
Halladay thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jebac's head.
Halladay is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Jebac keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Halladay is trying to control. Jebac wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Halladay drops an elbow to the side of Jebac's head.
Halladay has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jebac is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Halladay locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Jebac is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jon Halladay!
An out of breath Jon Halladay thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
