Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Kreiger! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, David Woods! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kreiger decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kreiger stalling. Woods is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Ground and pound from Kreiger. Woods wants to get back to full guard but Kreiger has passed into side control. Kreiger goes for an armbar but Woods turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Woods. Kreiger wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Woods postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kreiger is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Woods, into his guard. Kreiger loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kreiger trying to control but Woods is working from the bottom. Kreiger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Woods looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Woods can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kreiger controls the pace. Woods escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kreiger gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Kreiger stands up from Woods's guard - Kreiger perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Kreiger throws a right and a left that Woods avoids nicely. Kreiger looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Kreiger shoots in but no luck this time. Kreiger tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Woods paws at him with a jab and circles away. Woods misses with a takedown attempt and Kreiger counters with a nice double leg into guard. Kreiger is breathing heavily. Kreiger wants to control from the top but Woods keeps moving. Woods looking for a guillotine here but Kreiger defends easily.
Kreiger trying to control the position from guard on top but Woods is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kreiger gets to his feet - Woods follows without any prompting. Woods scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Woods scores with a takedown into Kreiger's guard. Woods is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Kreiger looking for a triangle here. Woods is fighting it but it looks tight! Kreiger pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Woods is tapping out - this one is all over!
