Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Peter Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes into the arena with Ennio Morricone - The Return of Ringo blaring out of the sound system. Peter Jones has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua throws a series of strikes that have Jones backpedaling.
Jones shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rua counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rua is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Jones wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rua, who protects the arm well.
You can see the frustration on Rua's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The ground and pound from Jones seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rua is not content to let Jones control the position.
Rua pushes Jones away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jones gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rua gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Jones.
Jones tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rua just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Rua is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

A close round but Mauricio Rua will probably get the nod.

Rua closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Rua is nestled in close to Jones, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Jones has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rua is working away from the top position though.

Rua has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jones uses from the top position.

Rua has an Americana. Jones didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Rua is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Rua hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
