PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Prototype (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jethro Gibbs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jethro Gibbs told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!

The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Damien Edna.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gibbs avoids the head kick by Prototype.
Prototype keeps the fight on the outside.
Gibbs moves in looking to clinch but Prototype pushes him off.
Gibbs throws a right and a left that Prototype avoids nicely.
Prototype shoots for a takedown but Gibbs saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Prototype throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Gibbs shoots in for a takedown but Prototype shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gibbs is defended easily by Prototype.
Gibbs fails in his attempt to clinch.
Prototype tries to close the distance and clinch but Gibbs swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Prototype rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gibbs moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Gibbs counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gibbs.

Prototype tries to throw a body punch but Gibbs avoids it by throwing Prototype back against the cage.
Prototype tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Gibbs manages to break the clinch.

Prototype looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Gibbs wants to control the action here but instead Prototype manages to pass to full mount!
Gibbs tries to lock up and control but Prototype gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Prototype looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Prototype avoids the attempt from Gibbs to control.
Prototype postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gibbs looks a forlorn figure.
Gibbs swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gibbs tries to reverse the position but Prototype maintains control.
Prototype controlling the position easily from mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gibbs is trying to escape the mount but Prototype keeps good control and instead manages to take Gibbs's back.
Gibbs should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Prototype has his opponent's back but Gibbs is looking to stand. He manages to get to his feet and shakes off Prototype.
Prototype lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gibbs circles away quickly and effectively.
Prototype dives in and grabs Gibbs's left leg, looking for a takedown. Gibbs pushes down on Prototype's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Prototype. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Prototype throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gibbs was covering up waiting for the punch and Prototype finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Gibbs controls Prototype momentarily but Prototype frees himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gibbs looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Gibbs avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Prototype throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gibbs works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Prototype controls from within his opponent's guard.
Prototype works over Gibbs with some ground and pound from guard.

Gibbs working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Prototype doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Gibbs is tightening it up a little... Prototype has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Prototype reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Prototype taps out! Nice BJJ there by Gibbs!
