PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tony Rizzo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Young Link (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Rizzo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Young Link!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rizzo shoots in looking for a takedown but Link manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rizzo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rizzo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Link but Link pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Horrible takedown by Rizzo or perhaps it was just good defense by Link which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Rizzo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Link throws a head kick that misses.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Link is looking for a takedown.
Rizzo fails to pull guard.
Link prevents a takedown attempt there.
Link gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Rizzo.
Link tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rizzo just stands there and leans against the cage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Link is looking for a sweep. Rizzo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Rizzo is looking for submissions but instead, Link has regained full guard.

Link has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Rizzo off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Rizzo shoots in for a takedown but Link shows good takedown defense.
Link shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rizzo pinned against the cage. Rizzo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Link will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Link tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rizzo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice takedown defense from Link. No joy for Rizzo on that attempt.

Rizzo has a closed guard, preventing Link from standing up.

Link drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rizzo dives on top into guard.

Rizzo is trying to work for a kimura but Link is defending well.
Link wants to get back to full guard.
Link is trying to maintain the position but Rizzo is very close to passing his half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Link avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rizzo.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rizzo seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Tony Rizzo will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Link wants to clinch up but Rizzo keeps it at a distance.
Rizzo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Link as he avoids it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Rizzo breaks the clinch.
Rizzo dives in and grabs Link's left leg, looking for a takedown. Link pushes down on Rizzo's head and hops out.
Link scores with a head kick. Rizzo tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Rizzo throws a sloppy head kick and Link moves out of range easily.
Link is looking to clinch.

Link instigates a clinch.

Link drags the fight down to the ground.
Link wants to stand up but Rizzo is controlling him.
Rizzo throws a strike but Link rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rizzo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Link shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Link manages to capitalize on a mistake by Rizzo to take his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Link has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Rizzo has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Rizzo tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Young Link showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The referee asks Link politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Link prefers to stall for the moment though.

I would just about give that final round to Young Link.
Well Link has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
