0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kenny Blankenship! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lovell lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
It looks like Kenny Blankenship has been cut. Blankenship fails with a takedown attempt. Lovell pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lovell throws the left hand but Blankenship avoids the punch easily. Lovell lands with a slapping head kick. Zack Lovell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Blankenship tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lovell swivels and escapes. Lovell throws a head kick but Blankenship moves out of range.
Lovell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Blankenship avoids it really well and circles away. Lovell is breathing heavily. Blankenship tries to pull guard but Lovell forces him back to his feet, against the cage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Blankenship escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Lovell shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Blankenship sprawls well. Blankenship wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lovell gets slowly back to his feet. Lovell defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Blankenship. Nice takedown defense from Lovell. No joy for Blankenship on that attempt. Lovell misses with a head kick.
Blankenship lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Blankenship. Some wild striking there from Lovell.
Blankenship closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Blankenship jumps into guard, dragging Lovell to the mat.

Lovell displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Blankenship. Lovell could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. That must have hurt him. Blankenship looks for a takedown but Lovell sprawls well. Blankenship tries to clinch up but Lovell circles away and keeps his distance. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Blankenship takes a body punch but keeps moving. Lovell throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Blankenship shoots in but Lovell avoids the takedown attempt easily. Lovell throws a head kick that half lands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Zack Lovell will probably get the nod. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Lovell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Blankenship's waist but Blankenship gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lovell off to one side. Blankenship moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Blankenship looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Blankenship avoids the head kick by Lovell.

Kenny Blankenship seems to be getting the better of the standup. Blankenship tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lovell swivels and escapes. Blankenship is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Blankenship closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lovell circles away. Zack Lovell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenny Blankenship. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Blankenship is working for takedown but Lovell is calmly controlling the position for now. Lovell is trying to force a seperation but Blankenship has the dominant position. Blankenship is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Lovell gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Lovell looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Blankenship keeps control of Lovell as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Lovell is trying to push Blankenship away but Blankenship has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
