Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rylan Hunter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Franks! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Franks keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Franks tries to clinch but Hunter is having none of it. Hunter decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Franks keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Hunter is working for a submission of some sort.
Franks is trying to get back to full guard. Hunter is looking to take a break and control but Franks is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Hunter seems to be working for a kimura but Franks defends the submission attempt. Franks is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hunter's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hunter's back!
That's one minute gone in the round. Hunter tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Franks lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Hunter taking shots to the head. Franks sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Hunter tries to hold on but Franks pushes him away. Hunter reaches up and holds on to Franks to control the position. Franks is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Franks tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hunter paws at him with a jab and circles away. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Franks gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hunter to score an easy takedown into full guard. Hunter tries to free his leg and advance position but Franks is retaining full guard. Franks is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Hunter is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Franks pulls his head out easily. Hunter is breathing heavily. Franks keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Hunter is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Franks pulls his head out easily. Hunter is looking to improve his position.
Franks seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Franks decides to return to a standing position. The fight stays on the outside here - Franks looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Franks tries for a takedown but Hunter sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Hunter closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Franks trying to control but Hunter postures up.
Hunter is pressing down on Franks's thigh, looking to free his foot. Franks is holding on for now. Hunter keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Franks is trying to control but can't.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Franks is trying to stand up here but Hunter is controlling him well.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Mike Franks hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Hunter fails to land the takedown. Hunter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mike Franks will probably get the nod. That's time! Hunter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Franks misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hunter shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Franks is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hunter's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hunter's back! Franks has got one arm under Hunter's chin. This could be trouble... Hunter trying to control the other hand but Franks gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Hunter has tapped out! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:53 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mike Franks! Jumping up and down and very excited, Mike Franks waved his t-shirt featuring Saving Grace Clothing's logo in front of the cameras.
