0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Desmond Scoby! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Russell gets tackled into the cage by Scoby. Scoby maintains the clinch. Scoby lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Scoby looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Russell wants to break free but Scoby has control.
Scoby has hold of one of Russell's legs. Russell is fighting the takedown attempt but Scoby gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Scoby with a flurry of punches that miss. Scoby throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Scoby scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Scoby throws a big right hand that misses. Russell is breathing heavily. Scoby gets to his feet - Russell follows without any prompting. Scoby misses with a double jab.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Scoby is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Russell is surviving well by controlling Scoby's body position as best he can. Scoby landing strikes from the mount.

Scoby feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Russell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Scoby controls the pace. Scoby stands and steps away. Russell gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Russell misses with a few strikes there.
Scoby scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Scoby rushes Russell and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Russell tries to break free but Scoby pushes him back against the cage. Scoby misses with a punch on the inside.
Scoby lands an uppercut. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Scoby pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Scoby takes the fight into the clinch. Scoby lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Russell backwards.

Scoby has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Scoby makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut. Scoby has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Russell is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. A nice left hand lands by Scoby.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows. Scoby digs a right hand underneath Russell's ribcage. Russell let out a lung full of air as it connected. Russell gets underhooks to prevent Scoby's takedown attempt.

Scoby tries to pull guard but Russell holds him up against the cage and eventually Scoby drops back down to his feet.

Scoby lands with a right to the head. A nice right hand lands inside from Scoby. Scoby's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Scoby struggles to land a body shot inside as Russell controls his hands.

Desmond Scoby showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
