Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cory Marks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Everyman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Everyman!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Everyman is looking to clinch.

Everyman has managed to clinch.
Marks on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Marks is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Everyman can't fight it off and eventually Marks manages to take the fight to the floor. Everyman looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Everyman preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Marks trying to control but Everyman is working from the bottom.
Marks loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Marks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Marks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Everyman has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Everyman is looking to clinch.
Marks looks to clinch

and Everyman counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Everyman swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Everyman trying to land knees to the body.
Everyman is pressed up against the cage. Marks has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Everyman down to the mat. Everyman avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Marks misses with a takedown attempt - Everyman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Everyman tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Marks decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Everyman's guard.
Marks postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Marks throws a strike but Everyman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Everyman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Marks is breathing heavily.
Everyman sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Marks looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Everyman puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Marks wants to improve his position but Everyman is controlling well.
It looks like Everyman is going to stand back up.
Marks is trying to maintain the position but Everyman is very close to passing his half guard.

Let's hope that Everyman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Everyman stands up and beckons Marks to join him on the feet.
Everyman tries to clinch up

and Marks counters by clinching up.
Everyman looking to stall.

Everyman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Everyman tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Marks counters with a single leg into guard. Everyman didn't expect that.
Marks pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Everyman is keeping the position for now.
Marks stops Everyman from standing up.
Marks throws and elbow that misses. Everyman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Marks's guard. Nice move by Everyman!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Marks throws his legs up looking for a submission but Everyman uses it to pass to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cory Marks dominated that round.
That's time! Marks's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Everyman throws a leg kick that is checked

and Marks counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Marks seems to be working for a kimura but Everyman defends the submission attempt.

Marks stands up from half guard.

Marks rushes Everyman and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Everyman unloads a knee to the mid-section. Marks lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Marks jumps guard but Everyman stands there with Marks around his waist. Marks gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Marks tries for a takedown but Everyman manages to get underhooks.
Everyman tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Marks just stands there and leans against the cage.
Marks drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Everyman gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cory Marks. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Everyman with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Everyman looking to throw knees to the head but Marks is blocking nicely.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Marks turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Marks manages to end up in side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Marks laying and praying for a moment but Everyman takes advantage and regains half guard.

Everyman tries to kick Marks off but Marks keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Everyman is looking for a sweep. Marks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Marks stands up from half guard.
Marks shoots in looking for a takedown. Everyman tries to sprawl out of it but Marks keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Everyman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Everyman takes a swing at Marks's ribcage but misses.
Everyman closes the distance looking to clinch

and Marks counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Marks is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marks throwing shots but Everyman is blocking nicely.
Cory Marks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Everyman pushes Marks off looking to stand but Marks dives back in and keeps control.
Everyman is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Marks scores with a couple of nice shots.
Everyman won't allow Marks to pass to mount.
Marks is stalling here. Everyman is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Marks seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Everyman has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Marks wants to control from the top but Everyman keeps moving.
Marks throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Everyman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Marks looking to sit in guard and control but Everyman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Marks working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Everyman has passed into half guard!
Marks pushes Everyman off but Everyman dives into side control.

Everyman decides to stand back up. Everyman steps back and let's Marks get back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Marks looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Everyman walks into a straight right hand from Marks.


It looks like John Everyman has been cut.

Marks fails with the takedown
and Everyman counters with a slapping leg kick.
Marks closes the distance but Everyman moves to the side
and Everyman counters with a left and a right that stings Marks.
Marks throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Everyman's waist but Everyman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Marks off to one side.

and Marks counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Marks.
Marks goes for a takedown in the clinch but Everyman prevents it.
Everyman is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Marks is keeping busy.
Everyman prevents the takedown attempt.
Everyman misses with a hook to the ribs.
Everyman connects with a knee to the head.

Marks successfully pulls guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Marks trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Marks bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Everyman's guard.
Marks prevents Everyman from getting back to his feet.
Marks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Everyman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on John Everyman's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Everyman looks to clinch

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Everyman holds on and takes a little breather.

Marks throws a big right hand that misses.
Marks won't allow Everyman to get back to his feet.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Everyman avoids a series of strikes thrown by Marks.
Poor strikes thrown by Marks there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Marks goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Everyman turns into him and now he's in Marks's guard.
Everyman trying to control the position from guard on top but Marks is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Everyman won't allow Marks to sweep him here.
John Everyman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Marks has his foot on Everyman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Everyman works his way back into a safe position though.

Marks is working an open guard so Everyman takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Everyman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Marks moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cory Marks showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Marks, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
